Christy Hemphill and her husband Aaron serve with SIL as translation and linguistics advisors in Guerrero, Mexico. They provide exegetical and management support for a team of translators working in a Wycliffe Common Framework project to produce Scripture in four Me’phaa varieties. Christy completed master’s degrees in applied linguistics at Old Dominion University and Dallas International University.
Evaluating training of local translators in light of calls for theological 'decolonization'
Abstract
Over the past several years there has been a push toward ’localization’ in SIL. This paper summarizes insights from voices speaking to decolonizing theological training and presents an appraisal tool for examining training for minority language translators, seeking to move toward decentering white, Western perspectives and practices.
