Is the requirement of standardized language identification a barrier to Bible translation?

This paper provides an overview of two levels of language variety recognition (ISO 639-3 and dialect-level standards) and explores how seeking recognition can be a barrier—due to complex processes, hegemonic relationships, and community divisions. It examines language assessment’s role and proposes ways to mitigate barriers.
