Abstract

Why is translation quality so important? Isn’t it because we want to share the Good News with others? And in order for this Good News to be shared effectively and successfully, there needs to be integrity in the quality of the translated Scripture. But what constitutes success?

Pastor and theologian Timothy Keller pointed out that when our Lord returned to heaven, He did not leave behind a book, but a community. A community of believers is both the result of, and a vital part of the gospel declaration. How we live together and relate to one other can either validate or invalidate the Good News we have worked so hard to produce in the heart language of a people group. As such, quality translated Scriptures need quality communities.
