The joys and challenges of checking Oral Bible Translations

With growing interest in Oral Bible Translation all over the world, the need for consultants to check orally translated Scripture is increasing. Many consultants accustomed to checking written translations are now required to make a paradigm shift in checking oral Scriptures. However, this has raised some questions and serious challenges for consultants who check orally translated Scriptures. How does this difference in the process and the final product, i.e. Written Scripture Vs Oral Scripture, affect consultant checking? Is going through a written back translation enough to check an oral/audio product? Is there a need to check the voice prosody of the translation? What is the optimal time(s) to give consultant input?
This paper is an attempt to engage with questions and concerns that are relevant to Oral Bible Translation consultant check process. Additionally, this paper will also take a look at some of the methodologies adopted by consultants checking oral translations of the Bible.
